Mexico Rescues Oil Workers Drifting on Life Raft

By: Spencer Kim

Six men were found on a small raft in the Gulf of Mexico. They were workers for an oil company called Pemex and Tropical Storm Nate made them have to evacuate their boat and get on a life raft. Although the survivors were located, the rescuers also found three men dead, and they believe that there is still one man missing. The tropical storm was said to have disabled their original vessel. Nate has appeared to weaken as it gets closer to land.

The workers are still recovering in the hospital and I hope that they will be fine. Secondly, let’s hope that the last man will be found very soon.

  1. Thanks, Spencer. Do you know exactly what these men were doing when they were forced to leave their boat? The BBC article only says “research work” — what do you think?

  2. I dont think they were doing research work, they sound very suspicious.

  4. That’s terrible. I wonder if anyone knew of their location and if they were even going out to work on the oil. From the information, I cannot grasp much, but from what you have told us, Spencer, it seems to me that there is more to their story than them “just floating after a tropical storm”. Why were they out there? Details?
